A Perfect Gift for New Moms / Mom-to-be s

Thinking of a perfect gift for a new born baby? or may be a friend's baby shower is coming up and you still don't know what to buy? You are so bored of gifting the same baby suits or gift cards ... and wanna try something new? How about a Cake? No-no.. not the one loaded with cream, sugar and calories.... I am talking about a different kind of cake here, its a Diaper Cake!
Well ... don't be fooled by the word "Cake" . Its not the thing you cut with a knife and put it in the mouth :-) This cake is made by rolling out the baby diapers .. individually , one by one making little roll-ups .. setting all of these together into a bigger one and wrapping them together and assembling them in whatever shape you want...layering them up....making it look like a cake :-) Sounding Tedious? Well.. its easier done than said ;-)

You can then decorate it with ribbons, add baby accessories to it .. to make it look more colorful and beautiful! If its a Boy - make it all blue .. and pink for Girls..!

Check out My cakes:

Diaper Cake # 1

I made this Diaper Cake for a friend's Baby shower. Since the Parents of the baby wanted to keep the gender secret .. I used combination of Blue , Red and White. After stacking the diapers in layers, I decorated it with ribbons. I used a J&J Travel sized baby lotions , creams as accessories. Also hidden are Baby Bottles .. I then decorated the cake with a baby brush, a comb and also added a few baby toys including a rattle. Topped it with a "Baby on Board" Car Sticker.

This made an amazing center piece for the Baby Shower Party.

Diaper Cake # 2

When my best friend had a baby girl, I surprised her with this Exclusive Gift. So its all in Pink. The baby's name starts with a "R" . So as you can see .. I personalized this cake by adding the letter "R" on the top layer. The Pink and black thing on top - 'Do not Disturb the Princess' .. is a Gift card holder and I used it as a center piece for my cake. As for decorations - I used baby spoons, pacifiers, bottle brush, baby comb and tooth brush plus travel packs of baby lotions and creams etc, rattles and baby toys. Plus lots of pink and white ribbons.

You can Google step by step information for making the cake along with what all u need to make this creation happen! Or even better .. see videos on YouTube. Type in - "how to make a diaper cake "

You can also buy these cakes online... and they usually are around $80 bucks plue shipping and handling! But if you make it at home, the basic version of this diaper cake would cost you around $30. The more things you add to the cake .. the more you would be spending.

The preperation needs solid 2-3 hours or split it up according to your convenience and time. The major part of this project is to roll out the individual diapers and put a rubber band around them ( you will know what am talking abt from the YouTube Videos). Thats the time consuming part. Rest of the assembling and decoration stuff is easy... takes less 30 minutes. I would also suggest to do this project away from kitchen or the dining table. You dont want the cake to smell like food :-)
Bottom line , its fun and exciting project. Trust me!! Your friend / Loved one will be Thrilled when they see this! It makes a Unique gift, Incredible centerpiece and a Wonderful memory to any new Mom :-)

Have Fun Baking it ;-)
